Draynes Farm

The milking way, how it all began

Our delivery service is much faster today

Back in 1932 when Seamus Drayne and
his two brothers Aidan and Dermot started
Draynes Farm, the Glenavy Road was in
the heart of the country. But our enterprising
forebears saw a market opportunity in the developing town that was on their doorstep.
They started deliveries on horse & cart,
with fresh farm milk straight from the churn.

Eighty years or so down the
    road, and Lisburn has changed
a lot. It’s nearer to the farm for
a start, but that has helped to
bring us even closer to one of
our main markers. And it’s not
    just Lisburn that’s changed.
    Seamus, Aidan and Dermot
    would hardly recognise the

    farm…or at least not the
    buildings and our technology.
    But what they would recognise
is the passion for modern dairy
    farming that sill runs through
    everything we do at Draynes
    Farm. That’s because we
    remain an independent family
    business producing, processing
    and distributing directly from

our 200 acre farm in Lisburn.
    And we think Seamus,
    Aidan and Dermot would
    feel proud that the business
    they started all those years
    ago, is still delivering the
    finest home grown milk and
    cream to thousands of homes
    and businesses in Lisburn
    and across Northern Ireland.

Our recipe for great tasting milk

Some distributors say that all milk is equal. But we believe our milk is more equal than others! That’s because here at Draynes Farm, we regard milk as a wholesome foodstuff that responds to dramatically to amount of care, rigour and passion put into its making.

  • And that means caring for every animal in our full herd of prime Holstein Friesians and creating a stress–free environment for them. It

  • means processing the milk in our own modern facility. And it means distributing it using our own dedicated fleet of vehicles.

  • So we use the most modern automated, computerised milking system that lets each cow decide when it’s ready to be milked. And we maintain a comfortable and hygienic

  • living environment for our herd. We’ve even laid on an automated bovine back scratcher…which they love! After all, happy cows make great–tasting milk.

  • Then we pasteurise and bottle the milk right here on our farm and distribute it to you direct from our farm, so you get your milk from us quicker and fresher.

Our core principles

Here are some of the guiding principles that underpin our milk production at Draynes Farm

  • We know each cow that produces every drop of milk on our farm.

  • We make sure they receive the best care and quality feed.

  • We pasteurise their milk and cream in our own modern processing plant.

  • We bottle it on our farm in Lisburn.

  • And our milkmen deliver it straight to your door or your business, fresh every day!
