Draynes Farms commenced selling milk in 1932 with Seamus Drayne making twice daily deliveries.· From such small beginnings and with the help of his family, a local dairy was developed whose growth has been closely linked to that of the City of Lisburn. We now have 14 different delivery runs that supply hotels, hospitals, restaurants, homes etc with a wide range of dairy produce, eggs, fruit juices, lemonades, potatoes and other sundry goods across Lisburn, Belfast and beyond As well as the range of milk products Draynes Farms now also deliver many other goods such as potatoes, eggs, lemonade, fruit juices, coca- cola and dilute orange. Draynes commenced selling milk in 1932 with Seamus Drayne making twice daily deliveries using a pony and trap with a milk chum full of milk. With the help of Seamus's two brothers, Dermot and Aidan, the original two milking cows devel- oped into a Pedigree herd of British Friesian cows which are renowned throughout Northern Ireland. From such small beginnings and with the help of his mother and other family members a local dairy was developed whose growth has been closely linked to that of the town of Lisburn. Hail, rain or shine, our milkmen deliver the goods and many still recall the severe winter of 1963 which paralysed Northern Ireland. De- spite the weather, a tractor and trailer went into Lisburn and was still able to get the milk delivered. For five years the pony and trap was the sole means of delivering milk. In 1937 finances permitted the purchase of a second-hand Jowett van. Twice daily deliveries continued until the outbreak: of World War 11 in 1939. The developments over the years have entailed a substantial financial investment. To ensure the product is of the highest quality a new Laboratory was set up to test the milk on the premises. Invest- I n looking back no history would be complete without paying a compliment to our staff, past and present. They have worked tirelessly over the years to produce and deliver the milk and other dairy products. There are now 28 employees; some with the firm for many years and all committed to providing a Quality Service. The number of vans have also significantly increased with 5 going out in the early hours of the morning delivering toall areas of Lisburn and beyond. In concluding Draynes Farms would like to take this opportunity to thank you the customer for your support over the years. We hope we can continue to serve you in the years to come. |
